Global village at the researchers’ night in Gödöllő

The program called “Global village” was organized for the 3rd time in the framework of the Researcher’s night national program. The program was organized by the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences with the participation of the international students on campus. Nearly 100 visitors attended the program including Hungarian children, students and adults. It proves that learning about other cultures should be started at a very early age.

The following countries were represented in the global village:

• Japan, Vietnam, China, Laos, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey and India
• Kosovo, Montenegro, Georgia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Serbia, Belarus
• Ethiopia, Nigeria, Botswana, Burundi, Uganda, Ghana and
• Hungary.

Visitors could taste the foods and drinks of the countries, they could talk to the internationals students about their cultures. The program was in English, so it was also useful to practice the language. Some of the international students also performed traditional dances. In addition, our Japanese student drew the names of the visitors in Japanese language. Those who were interested, could do origami as well.

For the international students, a quiz about hungaricums and famous Hungarian places and monuments was organized. 4 teams competed with each other with surprisingly good results, despite of the fact that most of them arrived in Hungary only a few weeks ago. All in all, the program was really successful for not only the Hungarian visitors but for the international students as well.
