Workshop for the new scholars of the joint scholarship program of FAO and the Hungarian Government

On 14 December 2015, a workshop was held in the Ministry of Agriculture for the new scholars of the joint scholarship.

The ceremony started with the presentation of Mr. Vladimir Rakhmanin, regional representative of FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia about such actual topics, like hunger, poverty, climate change as well as the tasks of FAO in facing such global challenges. His presentation was followed by those of about the agriculture, feed industry, rural development policy of Hungary held by the representative of the ministry. Several ambassadors and members of diplomatic bodies were also present at the event.

In the framework of the joint scholarship program, started in 2007, 230 young people from developing European, Asian and African countries have been awarded the scholarship to pursue master studies in the field of agriculture, horticulture, rural development at the high-ranking higher educational institutions of Hungary, 160 already receiving their diplomas and have returned to their home countries to contribute to the development of agricultural sector and rural areas. Due to the Alumni system, there is a regular contact with the former graduates to maintain the close relationship with Hungary.

After the workshop, the students visited the House of the Hungarian Parliament.
